The Real Truth about Web 2.0

Don’t believe the rumors!

Whatever they tell you…

It’s a lie!

NicheBOT has not been de-commissioned!

See, I got misunderstood again in something I said in an email.

NicheBOT is not shutting down at all, and in fact, is no longer even going to be considered the best keyword tool.

I guess instead of saying that NicheBOT was being de-commissioned as a “tool” – I should have said that it was really being upgraded to a “Suite” and currently the only one of its kind.  :D

You’ll understand what I mean below with just one of the upgrades and you’ll discover how you can be one of the first to find out the new site that is launching next week and how you can get a peak before the general public does (one of the many benefits of being on our subscriber mailing list to receive The Keyword Informer).  ;)

There is also a special deal at the end of this article you don’t want to miss because NicheBOT’s price are about increase 25% at 11:59 p.m. January 23, 2009.   And if you have been receiving our emails, then yes, this is that special deal I was mentioning.

So let’s get to what this article is really about – the Web 2.0 thing.

Are you still on the fence wondering whether you should finally hop on board the Web 2.0 bandwagon in 2009?

Are you still lost and wondering what the heck Web 2.0 really is and how to make sense of all the different things you are reading out there?

Can Web 2.0 really result in bottom line increased profits for you?

Here’s what I say – - – Don’t hold your breath!

You’ll remember that last year, about halfway through the year, I explained why I hadn’t recommended a single Web 2.0 course or product to date.

And the reason was simple.

I saw no merit in blowing a lot of extra time to learn something that takes a lot of skill to develop, it takes a method and a process and a lot of extra time (which most people don’t have) to develop meaningful website traffic from a social network unless the fundamentals of website promotion are mastered first.

Sure – fine…

If you have mailing list and you have a presence already built up, by all means, dig in and have profiles setup at some of these places like Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter, etc.  Heck, it can be a great way to meet people and get in conversations with other like-minded people.  I have no objection to it at all.

It’s one thing to have profiles made up to have as an add-on to your site, it’s another to adopt this as a complete website promotion technique and do it as part of your primary activities.

But if you are still in the beginning stages, I would highly recommend you stay away from Web 2.0 for now.   It’s really easy to get distracted and lose a lot of time when you could be doing other things to build a real presence through publishing content and content distribution.  (It’s your content on your site that sells – not your Facebook Profile.)  And all my long time subscribers know that true search engine power is developed through building valuable backlinks (those hyperlinks that point back to your site with your preferred keyword phrase in it).

The web changes so fast and with Web 2.0, it can change so fast, your head can start spinning from keeping up.

I just said, “There’s no way!”

Look, it was just this past week I read an article I found on Twitter of how Google just recently put the pressure on Twitter to “no follow” the outbound links in the profiles of its members.   This means that anyone who tried to take advantage of Twitter by creating thousands of accounts with links pointing to their sites just lost that plan.

It’s stuff like this people have to think about before getting involved with some magical Web 2.0 product.

When people discuss the search engine power that can be achieved through social bookmarking, it’s sorta unclear as to how long those search engine listings last, if even a month.

And here’s why it’s shifty and unclear — it’s because spammers are constantly trying to exploit loopholes in the system and the third party resources that are being used in the process have employees and programmers that must fight back and stop the abuse.

The next time someone comes out with some fancy web 2.0 solution that will get you gobs of endless traffic, putting all your financial worries to bed, think twice about buying it!

That technique could last a month, or two, at best!

So what is this Web 2.0 thing really?

I like to refer to it as the web outside the static world.

Web 1.0 relates to a site that has no interactivity.

You view the site.  It maybe has an email link to contact the site owner, but beyond that, there’s no real way for you to interact with the site nor have a way to even contribute content to the site.

The only way the site could be altered is by the website owner making the change himself.

With a Web 2.0 site, a visitor has a way to interact and leave comments and opinions on the site, much like you see at Amazon.com when someone leaves a review.

Web 2.0 is an interactive world and allows the content of the web to expand without website owners necessarily changing their web pages.

And what’s funny is people made Web 2.0 sound shiny and new last year and the year before when it was around quite some time before then.

A forum is Web 2.0 — right?  It’s interactive and allows the users to build content.

Blogs, which have been around for quite sometime before they become popularized, are web 2.0.

Social bookmark sites where people can bookmark their favorite places on the web in an online environment rather than using their browser is another interactive environment (community).  This was the first place that SEO-minded people went first to take advantage of getting inbound links back in 2005/2006.

And thanks to publications disseminated by Internet Marketers, the Social Bookmark sites closed off all avenues for website owners could get any backlink power from their social bookmark sites.

Since that avenue got shut off to website owners, the next wave of educational products released in the last year were about social networks and how to network and tap into the huge traffic of sites like Facebook, Digg, with Twitter being all the rave now.

The only problem with this technique of building a huge friend and networking base at any one of the big sites is that it can consume a huge amount of your time.

One of the biggest places right now to build a following is Tweeter and I know some folks with no mailing lists that have built up 10,000+ followers.

But then I went to go look at this guy’s profile and in the past 9 months, he’s got like 3,629 updates (which means those are individual microblog entries he had to create), and I’m thinking geez, that’s gotta be a lot of time involved. What does this guy do for a living to make money? :D

Putting all this extra time into something that may not end up in bottom line profits sounds half-cocked to me.  In fact, I have confirmed with several experts that they do not see that much residual traffic, let alone BUYING TYPE traffic coming from these social networking or social bookmark type sites.  And since there are “no follow” tags being employed at places like Twitter, you might as well use a tracking link to see if any real meaningful traffic can be produced.

To me, the real result I want to see with Web 2.0 is how to acquire top search engine rankings for keyword phrases tightly related to my site.

But I want search engine rankings that stick and don’t fizzle out in a week or two or even six months from now.

I’ve been waiting for someone to come out with some course that cracks the code (in such a way that doesn’t burn the technique out).

It seems everyone has some product or some course on how to take advantage of all that social bookmarking traffic and all that social networking traffic.

Some will teach you how to dominate a conversation on Google by having 20 of the top listings for a keyword phrase by using various third party services using video submissions, social bookmarking, etc.

There’s really NO magic whatsoever at web 2.0 and it doesn’t have to be.

Why?

Because our resident expert, Mark Thompson of WPgoldmine.com, and announced head of our Blog Creation and Content High End Services Division, discussed how he got ONE blog post to generate $20,000 by submitting only TWO articles.

This Live Coaching Show number 37 struck a chord!

Why?

Because the lines were maxed out for this show — that’s how – I saw the counter on people coming in and it was like a slot machine.

As if that weren’t enough, he then just gave away LIVE on the line from Spain how he got his Mentor Student’s site index and IN Google within 20 minutes the day before the live call just the day before with his student!

Click here to listen the show — and join NicheBOT.com at the Gold Level to get more from him and our other experts that are ready to take your questions.

You will find that Mark isn’t some pie in the sky internet marketer who claims to have high search engine rankings alone, he actually has proof of converting his own content on a WordPress blog into real money, not just scampering visitors.    In fact, Mark rather not associate with marketers that are selling the latest sizzle.  He has built his own success on mastering fundamentals that not only bring visitors, but also bring the cash!

Mark has more advanced techniques on how to make web 2.0 work with blogging and his linking methods are absolutely rock solid (and he will reveal all that information on the special Hot Trends call).   ;)

  • Thanks for decommissioning the grandfathered accounts.

Yes, you heard me right. Thanks for making me pay for my NicheBOT membership.

I've had a grandfathered account from the start. And other than a little quick digs, I've done very little with it. I didn't want to take the time to learn all the different parts of it and how to use them.

Now that I'm paying for it, I feel an obligation to learn how to get a return on my money for it. And I'm seeing how much I've been missing by simply sitting on my account.

    Thanks again!
  • Hi

I hope we're going to have some new affiliate stuff to promote this brilliant package.
  • Hi Jim,

I'm a little confused. I have been a member of NicheBot for many months. Do I have to sign up for the extra $17/month for HotTrends Pro inside the members area? I couldn't find a download link for the report apart from that one. I have signed up, just in case that is the only way to get the report.

    Looking forward to the call.

    Kathy
  • But if you are still in the beginning stages, I would highly recommend you stay away from Web 2.0 for now. My question is I would not call my self computer savvy but I did build a blog @ http://tates.firststopcredit.blogspot.com just complicated is web 2.0?
The three other sites I have are affiliate sites.

    Hi Jim,

Looks like there is some problem with the order page. I tried to place an order on your hot trends training system it doesn't allow me to complete the order.

It is asking me to choose the membership type but there is no field to enter or choose that option on the form.

Please let me know how to get around it ?

    Thanks,
    -Gaj
