Keyword Research Clarity

This post entitled “Keyword Research Clarity for 2007″ is about a 12 minute, 42 second read, but I guarantee you it will be one of the most stimulating 12 minutes and 42 second reads and will certainly boost your year off in the right direction. It includes a multitude of resources…

1. Survey Results Are In – Where Were You?

In late December, I promised to all NicheBOT subscribers the fact that I would do all that I can in my powers to make 2007 their (and your) best year ever.

I emphasized that this wasn’t some half-hearted promise that I was going to just let fly by just talking the words. Many politicians already move their lips way too much as it is, so no sense in carrying on with jabbering.

So what did I actually do to reinforce the bonds of my words?

My chief marketing coordinator and I took a solid 72 hours to layout a “Tell us what you want” 40-question NicheBOT survey to get a complete assessment and understanding of your online business and where you are right now.

This survey was NicheBOT’s way to fulfill on that promise to deliver the content you are craving, rather than try my hand at reading minds. ;)

    Hi Jim,

As usual, I read every word of your sage advice, and only benefit. eg. the keyword combo tip… taking 2 keyword phrases and combining them together to create a 3-5 word multiple keyword phrase. By coincidence, I’ve just started doing that, before your tip!

Question: when making posts to a blog site… how does one control the metadescription content?

Thanks, and have a great year, Dan

    Dave,

    Thanks for the kudos!

    Nancy,

My pleasure for all the help.

    Dan,

Good to know that what I’m sharing is benefitting you! ;)

Rock on with using the multiple keyword combinations. Those really get the job done 10x faster.

As far as controlling Meta Description content, you’ll have to resort to a plug-in for WordPress or whatever your platform of choice is…

    http://www.g-loaded.eu/2006/01/05/add-meta-tags-wordpress-plugin/

I’m currently running WordPress with a specialized Search Engine Marketing set of plug-ins I got at http://www.myprotheme.com

The only other way to handle the control of Meta Description is by manually changing it and tinkering with raw code — which is not what I suggesting doing.

    Hope that answers your question.

Have a great year as well!

    Best,

    Jim

Jim as usual you have taken a subject that is sometimes confusing to many of us and broken it down into step by step methods on how we can proceed.

I have been reading your material for a while now and I am still amazed at times how you make it easier to proceed.

Thanks for all your time and assistance.

The most imprtant aspect of keyword research from me is scale and relativity. I don’t care really whether I get search data from keyword discovery or overture, or whether the competion data comes from google or from Yahoo. I’m not looking for hard core Gallup Poll +/- 2% data. I’m looking for how one phrase scales against another phrase.

I usually don’t pay attention to the KEI at all, though I want to know what the ratio is. It’s just a more meaningful number to me. There are a few KEI formula out there and there are problems with the math in all of them. And those problems magnify when you are looking for true niche interests.

I look for the supply, the demand and the ratio for the phrases within a niche and use those to make a decision about **where to start**. Because, lets face it, once you are into a niche and it’s bringing in any money, you need to expand. You are either growing or you are shrinking. Thats what the other 9,500 phrases are for. ;)
