Keyword Discovery changes effect Keyword Discovery 9-in-1, WordTrend Visual Keyword charts and The Count Collector
As I had indicated back earlier in April, there were some inevitable changes coming with Keyword Discovery and a database switch they were going through.
You should definitely read that post in the hyperlink above before you move on with reading about these changes. This will add on to what was already said.
Keyword Discovery has swapped out their main Global database that used to give off huge count totals in place of a different type of database.
They call it the Premium database and that is NOW the default database that is used at their main service as well as what is given to their API users, like NicheBOT.
This means that there has been a serious shift in the COUNT numbers that used to be displayed by The Count Collector and the WordTrend Visual Keyword charts.(fully detailed below)
You can still get the older (higher) numbers (if you want) from the Global – Historical selction in the Keyword Discovery 9-in-1 tool (2nd option down). However, there is no way to get the MONTHLY breakdown of the search count totals displayed in the WordTrend Visual Keyword Charts tool.
So just to be absolutely clear, the WordTrend Visual Keyword Charts tool and The Count Collector now both report the Keyword Discovery search counts from their Premium database that is called Global – Premium at NicheBOT 2.
So what does this mean in plain English and what is the Keyword Discovery Premium database anyways?
That’s a really good question — and curiosity may lead people to want to know the guts of what this database is all about.
First — let’s discuss what it is not.
This database is not part of their huge 35 billion keyword database that is made up of samples of data collected from a bunch of different search engines (called the Global – Historical database at NicheBOT).
Rather, what the Premium database contains are live searches that are done by over 4,000,000 users around the world as they are searching and surfing on the Internet. Keyword Discovery says they strive to keep at least a year worth of data and have already reached that point with the Premium database. The number, as quoted to me by the CEO of Keyword Discovery, indicates that they should have around 12 million users actively logging their keyword phrase usage by the end of 2007.
So what’s the major change you will see?
Simple. The keyword counts will be much lower and may even be a little unexpected. But these are apparently supposed to be more accurate gauges of widespread internet usage across 4,000,000 users. (Question in my head is, what segment of the population do these 4,000,000 users belong to?)
Here is how the tools are affected and exactly what should be expected from the switch of these databases:
1. Keyword Discovery 9-in-1 tool: You’ll notice that the “Global – Premium” database is now on top and in the “Default” position with the “Global – Historical” database moved down one notch. (NOTE: As I discussed with the CEO of Keyword Discovery, they kept the Global Historical database because it’s great for the long tail and getting multiple word keyword phrases — so keep that in mind.)
2. WordTrend Visual Keyword charts: The source from which the data comes from is now the Premium database discussed above and defined in detail. The numbers will seem lower if compared to keyword counts acquired from the Global – Historical database (which is now really the archive). So when comparing the WordTrend Visual Keyword charts, make sure to compare them to Search Count numbers acquired from the Global – Premium database setting within NicheBOT’s Keyword Discovery 9-in-1 tool.
3. The Count Collector: The same affliction here. The source of the data where this tool used to get it’s data has now shifted from the Global – Historical (bigger numbers) to the Global – Premium (much smaller numbers). So if you are doing searches with the Keyword Discovery 9-in-1 tool and use the Global-Historical setting, you should not compare those numbers together with The Count Collector search count totals for each keyword phrase. (Note: The Count Collector no longer pulls results from Keyword Discovery’s database as their servers could not handle the load and this tool is now pulling WordTracker keyword counts.)
Best of luck in your keyword hunting.
Sincerely,
Jim Morris, President/CEO/Founder
